“The Last Thing He Told Me” by Laura Dave

The emotions run high in a race to find a husband & father before his past catches up with him. Following a fraud investigation & subsequent raid, Owen goes on the run. His wife, Hannah, & daughter, Bailey, are left in the wake. Bailey, typical teen, doesn’t really care for her step-mom (Hannah). After Owen flees, the pair find they have to work together to uncover the truth & protect Owen. Unearthing decades old secrets, lies, & even crimes comes with a price – who will have to pay it? What will be the cost? Can Hannah keep the family together while it seems to be falling apart?

For me – this one is a 3/5. I did really enjoy the story. But the last couple chapters REALLY lost me. I just felt like I didn’t need that, but rather, there were some loose ends we never really got tied up. Like, what did her friend have to say? I mean sure, she’s getting PG version, but still. Jake – what about Jake? Just left the guy hanging? I understand the reader is supposed to gather that these things were handled, but their involvement seemed important enough to continually mention, but with no real wrap up for their characters. Specifically with Jake & the romantic involvement that was once there. I feel the same with Charlie & Nicholas. I didn’t feel like we got a ton of closure on that either. Aside from that — it was a good listen (BOTM Audiobook).
