⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

Whoa. Wild ride. I didn’t really know where we were going with this one at the start.
Tessa, a detective following in her father’s footsteps, is living in Montana when the past comes creeping back up. Jeffrey Pritchard, convicted killer and child abductor, is finally executed. His execution doesn’t go off without a hitch though.
After the execution, things get weird. Then they get downright scary. Tess gets a weird call – one with horrible news – her parents were dead. She soon learns that her parents weren’t the only targets. Her daughter, Julia, goes missing.
While Tess battles her current adversaries, her past demons, & tries to navigate her now-rocky marriage with her husband (Justin), more people are dying. The phone calls continue. The clues continue, but what do they mean?
Father Silence – Jeff Pritchard – has a following; a cult. The Lost Children. Animal masks & animal noises add to the suspense. Danger lurking at each corner – Justin & Tess scramble to “unlock” the mystery & put an end to Father Silence & his Lost Children.
But more importantly, to get their daughter back.
The answers lie in Twisted Tree — in Tess’s memory. She just has to unscramble the pieces & fit them together. Uncovering truths about what is really happening in Twisted Tree & what it has to do with her & with Julia, she uncovers secrets in places she NEVER expected to find them. Some of them… in her mind… like Noah — like Ruth & Oscar.
Beware the one who got away.

I really did enjoy this one – once we got all the info & we knew who was doing what & what was happening, it dropped off a little. I will say, I was so invested in Julia & learning all of what Tess remembered that I couldn’t stop — engaging, but not like the first 2/3 of the book. Overall, I liked it & would absolutely try something else by this author!
